Stampfest at Lynette's October 2, 2024

On Wednesday, October 2, Don and I visited Lynette. We had a great time having lunch together at Buona Beef, stamping and later visiting and relaxing!

Here's another view of our cards.

Lynette wanted to try a stencil technique that I have used to make sympathy cards. We used the Lattice section of the Tim Holtz Stencil called Flourish And Latticework Thmm115 and Stampin' Up's cameo coral ink with a blending brush.  We stamped Gina K's long flower from the Lisa Hetrick designed Hugs & Wildflowers stamp set using SU's lucky limeade and cameo coral inks. The card base is a  heavy weight creamy white cardstock from Hobby Lobby.

When Lynette showed me the butterfly and stenciled cards she made based on Natasha Foote's YouTube A 'Must Know' For Crafters!!! The Classic Split #1040 I wanted to make it too! So Lynette cut the butterflies with dies from Crafters Companion and I added stenciling and ink blending to the card using the Flourishes portion of the Tim Holtz Stencil Thmm115 with distress broken china and SU gable green inks. Also used a piece of waste canvas as a stencil. Lynette's work was the hard part, getting all those pieces removed from the die! 

We were both interested in making the Scribbly Bird cards posted on Anneke De Clerck's blog, Some Fiddling on the Kitchen Table. Below are 2 of Lynette's birdie layers, then 2 of mine:

We used Lynette's Caran D'ache watercolor crayons and a water brush on cold press watercolor paper--the smooth side. Used a heat tool to help dry the panel before stamping with Versafine onyx black ink and Dina Wakley's Scribbly bird stamps. We also stamped a separate bird image for layering as shown by Anneke, leaving the legs and feet of the image on the panel showing. We used a zig permanent pigment ink marker to hand draw leaves and circles and lines and a pink marker for groups of dashes, as Annke showed.  It was so relaxing to make these layers!

We also stamped some floral designed panels, using Gina K's Hugs & Wildflowers stamps designed by Lisa Hetrick. We duplicated the panels we made on our March 27, 2023 Stampfest. However we used Stampin' Up inks: lovely lilac ink for the flowers and old olive for the stems and leaves. We used an embossing stylus after inking the leaves to create the "line" in the center of each leaf.

After we finished stamping, Lynette served us an assortment of crackers with a Double Gloucester cheese with onion and chive, tortilla chips and salsa, a pumpkin spice caramel cluster candy, and Motif Cabernet Sauvignon Red Hills Lake County wine from Trader Joe's. We enjoyed watching some old music videos on YouTube on the TV. It was great fun visitng, stamping and relaxing!

Stampfest at Lynette's November 15, 2023

Lynette and I had a great visit almost two weeks ago. We took a walk, had lunch at a nice restaurant and stamped! 

After watching Natasha Foote's YouTube #915 called Is the the best layout ever we made these cards.  We both loved how easy these cards were to make.

Close up of Lynette's card-with 2 pieces of coordinating paper cut to  3-7/8 by 5-1/8 inches, your first cut is 1-1/2 inches. Then you turn the pieces and your 2nd cut is 1-1/4 inches. You are able to make 2 cards! And use up some of that printed paper in the stash!

This is the card I made the night before coming to Lynette's to test out Natasha's idea. I used one of Lynette's Stampin' Up! Stamps for the "hugs and kisses".

On this card, I used Lynette's pretty kraft paper with a delicate design printed in black. I wanted to try my new Gina K stencil, Bold Bouquet. My inspiration was Gina K's YouTube, Gift Card Holder Card - Inspired by Mindy Eggen. 

Lynette let me look through her stash of stamps for a Christmas stamp for my Christmas cards this year. I found this beautiful PSX nativity scene. I stamped it in Gina K's blue denim ink.

Just wanted to include this photo with  "Graphic Tree" from Gina K. I was experimenting with possible Christmas cards.

Stamps and Happy die: Hero Arts Happy Stamp & Cuts

Used Versafine onyx black to to stamp the "happy" stamp. I had trouble matching up the die and so some areas were white. Decided to color that with a distress broken china marker.

Used Versafine ink to stamp the anniversary stamp. Then embossed with Stamp N Stuff white embossing powder. 

Used Gina K's ribbon die from Master Layouts 4 to cut the anniversary panel. I trimmed the edges by hand to make the panel shorter.

More Background Cards

Three more cards today using more of backgrounds I shared yesterday. 

For this card, I added stenciling with distress abandoned coral and salty ocean. Used distress hickory smoke to stamp the lady, feather and flower from Bella Blvd, distributed by Hampton Art. Happy Birthday from Stampendous is stamped in Versafine onxy black. Used colored pencils to color the images. 

Used a scalloped rectangle die from the Gina K Master Layouts 4. I'm really loving this die! And it cuts easily every time (unlike some other brands of dies-which is so discouraging!)

After adding some stenciled circles using distress picked raspberry, I tried to stamp and clear emboss two flowers using distress ink. In the past this has worked fine for me. But today, the embossing powder was not sticking well. My ink pad must need to be re-inked! So, I switched gears and tried a Gina K technique that I saw on her recent YouTube, Emboss in Any Color and a Touch of Patterned Paper - Stamp and Chat  Using my misti, first I stamped the flower with distress broken china. Cleaned the stamp and inked it with Versamark and then stamped over the blue flower then added clear embossing powder and embossed it. This worked great! I repeated this method for the picked raspberry leaves stamps. 

On this card, I am using the other lady stamp from Bella Blvd, distributed by Hampton Art. The flowers and leaves are from an Altenew set called Wildflower Garden. The Happy birthday and curvy layer was made with Hero Arts, DC184 Ribbon Messages Stamp & Cut set.

I stamped the lady in distress antique linen as a kind of a test. I read somewhere that someone liked to use antique linen ink to stamp an image before coloring it. I cannot remember who, sorry! Added color with colored pencils. I am not sure which ink color I like better, the hickory smoke in the first card or the antique linen here. What do you think? 

This anniversary card is similar in style to yesterday's yellow card. Again I'm using Gina K's Master Layouts 4 scalloped die and the same circle stencil to sponge with Stampin' UP's Lavender Lace ink. Used distress broken china  for the best wishes from Hero Arts, DC184 Ribbon Messages Stamp & Cut.

Backgrounds for Cards

 

I should have taken a picture of all the backgrounds I made before making these cards. Above you see the five cards I finished.  Below are the rest of my backgrounds that hopefully will become new cards.

Made my backgrounds using wrinkle free distress and acrylic block stamping techniques.

For this card I used an acrylic block, dabbed it with Gina K's Bubblegum pink and Sea glass ink pads. Then I spritzed with water and pressed it onto my paper. After it was dry, I stamped sewing images from a small 5 piece Stampabilities set called Sewing. The happy birthday sentiment and curvy layer is from Hero Arts Stamp & Cut.

Inks: 

distress salty ocean, weathered wood, spiced marmalade, wild honey and  brushed corduroy, which was added to just the edges of the sewing machine stamp and happy birthday sentiment after being inked with wild honey, Gina K bubblegum pink for the button

Another acrylic block stamped background using Jane Davenport's Mermaid Markers, which are like "ink filled aqua pens". Colors, starting with lower right corner: Starfish (hot pink), Jellyfish (purple), Pirate's Gold (yellow), Seaweed (green). Applied to acrylic block, "coloring it" as you would with markers, then spritzed with water then pressed onto paper.

Used Versafine onyx black ink for the stamping:

Water Droplets Stencil Cards

Inspired by cards made by Sandi Lax viewed on the Gina K Designs & StampTV Friends Facebook, I made these three cards. This one is for my 87 year old Aunt Laura, my mom's only sister. She likes to ask me if I'm happy that I am named after her. Of course, Aunt Laura, I love being named after you! Her favorite color is purple, so I try and make purple, lilac, lavender cards for her.

I used Gina K's Water Droplets stencil applying distress shaded lilac ink with blending brushes. The hollyhocks are from Stampin' Up's Two Step Stampin' Spring Garden set. Used Stampin' Up's lavender lace on the flowers and wild wasabi for the stem and leaves. Since I hand delivered this to Aunt Laura, I added the stick on pearls. I wrote the sentiment with a Faber-Castell PITT pen.

This card was very similar, minus the stick on pearls because it was going to the recipient via the postal system. Also I used the same distress shaded lilac to stamp the flowers and SU's lighter green, certainly celery for the stem and leaves.

My last card is a friendship card. Sentiment is from Hero Arts, stamped in distress shaded lilac. Decided to use just the white layer oval, sponging the edges on this instead of backing the oval with a second oval of purple cardstock.

Another Stencil Butterfly Card

 Another Stencil Butterfly Card

When I was making my other stencil butterfly cards, I stamped the big butterfly in Versafine onyx black ink. At that time, I thought the black was much too dark, so I set that aside. 

Now, after seeing Arjita's butterflies here I decided to use my black butterfly. I colored it with yellow number 050 Zig clean color real brush marker and fussy cut it. 

I used Gina K's water droplet stencil again, sponging it with distress inks: scattered straw, shaded lilac and can you believe it, worn lipstick. I know that's not the color of worn lipstick! The velcro sponge I used was contaminated with an orange inkpad. So the worn lipstick has an orange look! I recently saw that Tim Holtz has a new red ink...and he's calling it crackling campfire! I wonder how close my mixed up worn lipstick is to his crackling campfire color!

Sentiment is from Stampin' Up, stamped in Versafine onxy black. I added some of the Zig yellow 050 marker to the edges.

Stencil Butterfly Cards

After seeing Hetty's beautiful card here, I was inspired to pull out my stencils, inks, sponging tools and blending brushes.

I liked how Hetty created a circle of intense color by making her own circle mask.  I gave that a try, putting my circle mask on top of my stencil. Then removed it and tried to add softer color outside the circle. I decided to sponge the edges of the card. 

I am using a cream cardstock from my stash that has a laid texture. Was surprised that it was easy to add color to it with a sponges and blending brushes.

Wednesday Card of the Day

Today's card features the small seahorse from Michael Strong's Cloisonne Seahorse stamp set.

My inspiration is from Kim Undseth's card.

My card base is Stampin' Up cardstock from my stash. Using a Time Holtz stencil from a Distress Mixed Media Spray Stain kit, I stenciled the circles and numbers with Artist's Loft Acrylic modeling paste and let it dry thoroughly. 

My tag is made with watercolor paper from my stash. Used distress ink smooshed onto acrylic block plus water and a paintbrush to add color to the tag: abandoned coral, crushed olive, carved pumpkin. Used a corner punch and a 1/4 inch hole punch on the top, then added twine.

The edges of a doily and torn sheet music are sponged with frayed burlap distress ink.

Stamped Mike's seahorse and sentiment (by Momenta) with distress barn door ink.

Wildflowers on Oxide Backgrounds

Here you can see I have revisited the distress background technique

demonstrated by Richele Christensen on the Ranger blog

using three oxide distress inks:

cracked pistachio, peacock feathers and abandoned coral.
Stenciling was done with sequin waste (circles)
and the cut outs left after die cutting the flowers
with frayed burlap and hickory smoke ink.
Sponged the edges of the layer with vintage photo ink.
I added color to a piece of muslin fabric
by dipping it into the spritzed inks on the craft sheet.

Then I stamped the sentiment on top
and used a mini stapler to attach it to the turquoise layer.

This background here ended up being more green.
The Stampin Up lady stamp was stamped in vintage photo
then sponged in peeled paint around the edges
and old paper ink in the center.

Used Tim Holtz Wildflowers #2 dies for the black flowers for both cards
and twine and raffia as embellishments.

Monday Card of the Day

This week I am card captain at the Enjoy Michael Strong Stamps Group

 which moved to a new home at Groups.io.

Today's card features Michael Strong's Mini Dragonfly, wrinkle distress technique
and a piece of muslin fabric.

I used distress oxide inkpads for the background layer.

When the paper was dry, I sponged ink onto waste canvas as a stencil.

 The bottom of the card shows a strip of muslin fabric
dipped into the puddle of distress oxide inks.
Fastened it to the card with the Tim Holtz mini stapler.

Stamped and fussy cut Michael Strong's mini dragonfly and attached it with dimensional foam.

The curvy banner is from a Hero Arts Stamp & Cuts set.

Inks used:
distress oxide: abandoned coral, picked raspberry, twisted  citron
Versafine black onyx.

Sweet Girl Tags

I was inspired to make these two tags after finding Rays and Clockwork stencils

by Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous on clearance at Michaels recently. 

Materials

 #8 manilla tag by Ranger

6-1/4 inches (16 cm) long by 3-1/8 inches (8 cm) high

The Mind Determines GG0137  by Prickley Pear

Distress inks: fossilized amber, vintage photo, oxide faded jeans

Also used muslin fabric, 2 yellow eyelets and fibers drawn through tag opening.

candied apple, fossilized amber and twisted citron.

Added a Stampin' Up stamp also.
